The Urban scene with Groove

This week with the Editor So this has been a very eventful week from the Bryan Adams show controversial aftermath, to more controversy with the exposure of the ridiculous, (in the Zimbabwean context), salaries of CEOs, and of course the excitement of the 56th Grammy Awards.
With a week filled with so much headlining controversy let us take a look at what has been happening this week a la Groove Magazine.

Bryan Adams
So the Canadian rock musician graced our beautiful Zimbabwe to give his Zimbo fans a taste of his live performance. The singer who is popularly known for his 90s hits such as "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)", "Please Forgive Me" and "Cloud Number Nine" and is a multi Grammy nominee, and one of the world's best-selling music artists; performed live at the Harare International Conference Center, last weekend on Friday 24th January 2014 and had a full house. Know your music

Know your musicWhat's in a name?
So we love the stars, and some people go on to name their children after the stars so let's look at the meanings of those names:

Aaliyah
Aaliyah means "Highest, Most Exalted, The Best" in Swahili.
In Arabic and Hebrew Aaliyah means "rising, ascending

The name is synonymous to the late R&B princess, Aaliyah Haughton who rose to fame at the tender age of 14.She sadly died in a plane crash at only 22 years old.She rose, she flew and sadly, she went to heaven.

Beyonce Creole surname. Beyonce Knowles, singer/actress, named after her mother's maiden name, Beyince.
The diva has an exotic look which makes her uniquely beautiful and alluring, and maybe her name has something to do with some of that elegance that she exudes.
Tamar Means "palm tree" in Hebrew. Tamar is the daughter-in-law of Judah in the Old Testament. Also in the Old Testament, this is the name of a daughter of David. This name was borne by a 12th-century ruli…

G Music New Album releases today

28/01/2014 Albums released today Artist: Angelique Kidjoe Album title: Eve Genre: Pop/Afro Pop Date of release: 28 January 2014 Number of songs: 16 Review: A 16 track album,Kidjoe's first in 4 years, the album maintains the wonderful African sounds from the Beninese songstress. Its title is inspired literally by her mother Yvonne's nickname, and metaphorically for the Judeo-Christian heritage's first woman. It is "dedicated to the women of Africa: to their resilience and their beauty." The album fuses a lot of Afro sounds with modern day pop, Caribbean and Latin sounds. In between the up tempo songs, there are the ballads

Artist: Cities Aviv Album title: Come To Life Genre: Rap Date of release: 28 January 2014 Number of songs: 15 Review: If you are into Childish Gambino, then you will like this album. Creatively using cloud rap whilst merging it with his talent, Come to life presents itself as an album that explores unfamiliar territories lyrically.

Zim's new soapie...coming soon!

Once upon a time there were "soap operas" in Zimbabwe namely Studio 263, Small House saga and Estate Blues; all which with heavy competition to South African soapies Generations, Muvhango, and Isindigo, just 'died'. However at the end of last year, connection to the South African channels was cut thus opening airwaves for new content for our local broadcaster. So with so much talent and so many young hopefuls trying to create opportunity to make it to the big time, a lot of television productions have been under construction. One of them is a new, proudly Zimbabwean soap opera, which promises to give viewers all the drama that is encompassed by soapies. With both seasoned and fresh actors, this production might be just what Zimbabwe needs to put the entertainment industry on a competitive regional and global platform.

Having watched snippets of the promo, we think that the Zim audience might have something to look forward to watchi…

Star Power: Aaliyah

Star Power
Aaliyah Remembering Aaliyah on her birthday Before Ciara, there was Aaliyah; a sexy tomboy who could sing, dance and act and was the "it-girl" of the 90s. She worked a lot with super producer, Timbaland and female rapper, Missy Elliot and made hits that will forever be remembered. For those of us who grew up in the 90s, Aaliyah was the one girl most girls wanted to be; sweet, playful, and really talented. With a great future ahead of her, she unfortunately passed away in a plane crash on August 25 2001, after filming her video to her hit song, "Rock The Boat" in the Bahamas. Aaliyah left a big gap in the music industry as she was a unique definition of "beauty and talent" and she did it with style.Brief Bio
