Black History Month 2015 Quotes

Inspirational Sayings By Prominent African-American Leaders

Black History Month began in 1926 as “Negro History Week” and evolved to its current iteration when President Gerald Ford had “Black History Month” federally recognized on the 200th anniversary of the United States in 1976. Black History Month 2015 begins February 1 right through to the end of February. To round off Black History Month, here are some inspiring quotes from black leaders and prominent African-Americans:
“I am America. I am the part you won’t recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me.” – Muhammad Ali, The Greatest

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

– Maya Angelou, “Still I rise,” And Still I Rise (1978)

“I have discovered in life that there are ways of getting almost anywhere you want to go, if you really want to go.” – Langston Hughes

What Colors Are This Dress?

One Dress Polarizes The Internet

In the last 24 hours, one blue dress been the source of so much consternation and people across social media have been arguing about whether a picture depicts a perfectly nice bodycon dress as blue with black lace fringe or white with gold lace fringe.
For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with #TheDress, here’s a brief rundown: yesterday, Tumblr user Swiked posted a photo of a dress and asked, simply, “Is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the f–k out.” Buzzfeed found it, shared it, and the internet exploded.
Do you see white and gold? Or black and blue? Lines have been drawn. Where do you fall? And celebrities have been on it including Taylor Swift, Julianne Moore, Anna Kendrick,Kim Kardashian, Mindy Kaling, Justin Bieber, amongst many have been in on the frenzy of th#TheDress.
Okay,it's just a dress, but then again some things in pop culture and social media trend for no reason.

Profile: DJ Zinhle

Name: Ntombezinhle Jiyane
Born: 30 December 1983

Occupation: DJ, actress and record producer

DJ Zinhle, stepped onto the South African DJ scene at a time when it was still very much of a man’s world. But this talented lady quickly managed to turn some heads with her crazy skills on the turntables. She even grabbed the attention of some of Mzansi’s most respected DJs, such as DJ Oskido, and has today become one of the best female house DJs in SA.

Zinhle never planned on becoming a DJ. In fact, she only got into it because of chance and circumstance. Zinhle’s love for DJing started in 2004 when she’d mess around with her brother’s DJing sound system he co-own with his friends.  Like a joke, her first unofficial gig was when she went to an event with her brother to help set up the sound system.  After everything was setup, the DJ who was billed to play was late. Zinhle then stepped to the stage and played a few house songs while waiting for the DJ.She started out do…
