Phenomenal Tariro NeGitare

As one of the first 'The Strum' features in Groove Magazine International, this lady needs no introduction. Her soulmate and consistent partner is her guitar. She is a woman whose brand has been built through her acumen in marketing. With two albums under her belt, several European tours and a name synonymous with Zimbabwean acoustic music, who wouldn't want to discover more of the fire. We had a pleasure to sit with Tariro NeGitare and coincidentally during Women's Month, what an honour to celebrate one of the best female trimmers of our time.
By Peggie Shangwa

GM: Welcome to The beat of the nation. We know that your brand TNG has grown immensely over the years and many now have their own view of who you are. We however, are excited to hear from you, before the stage, the guitar, the singing and song writing who is Tariro NeGitare?

TNG:  Before the stage and the guitar there was just Tariro. I am a mother of 1 girl and an entrepreneur. I have a hospitality, PR and mar…

We grew to know that unity in love stimulates growth as proven in the book of Acts. Each artist has a story to tell and through the music it will be …

Tinashe Tafirenyika Award winning, Word spinning Diva!

Tinashe Tafirenyika Award winning, Word spinning Diva!

By Peggie Shangwa

GM: Welcome to Groove Magazine Tinashe. Tell us who Tinashe is.

Thank you so much for having me. Well Tinashe is just a girl who loves coffee and all things covered in chocolate. She writes sometimes, and some of the things she writes aren’t so bad. She has difficulty telling her left from her right so it might not be the smartest thing to ask her for directions.

GM: We know that you are a poet and Spoken word artist. What do you say to being described in that way?

Primarily, it means spoken word poetry is now being recognised as an art. That recognition is growing and I love getting to be a part of that. So being described and acknowledged as a spoken word artist feels good, I enjoy it.

GM: We want to congratulate you on the N.A.M.A. I watched you make that long walk to the stage fully composed. I want to know what was going on under the surface. Take us through the whole shebang!

Hahaha I was NOT composed!! Well, n…

Album Review: Kehlani 'SweetSexySavage'

Kehlani continues to stand out with 'SweetSexySavage' as she proves that she's a heart, an intuition and the mouthpiece for those too afraid to speak up for themselves without judgement.

R&B in the 2010s has taken a rather different route from the traditional sounds of the genre and the artists seem more and more manufactured than raw and real. Kehlani Parrish has had her fair share of misfortunes growing up, trying to pursue her music career and even in the limelight including cyber bullying, public heartbreak and even depression but through it all she comes out triumphant with a little wisdom gained. Kehlani still remains that gem that is underrated by mainstream media despite proving that she could garner her own fans independently. However for those who have an appreciation for the Oakland native, there's a powerful connection that goes beyond the music and runs deep to the person Kehlani.
During her promotional tours especially in interviews Kehlani has given…

New Music:Tone Lakeside 'Operating'

Tone Lakeside real name Edwin Makuyana, is a South African based Zimbabwean hip hop recording artist, and one third of the award winning rap group Art Department ZW. The song “Operating” comes as a solo single prior to a forthcoming EP from the rapper, and speaks of regular operations of a young man trying to get by in the city.

Produced by South African music producer Street Carnivore, the song delivers a soft laid back vibe, with a composed beat and flow but sadistic wordplay and fascinating rap lingo by the emcee.

New Music: Ahsayn Beatmaker ft Sharky 'Maraki'

How many of us are superstitious? Do you keep a rabbit's foot in your pocket or have some form of lucky charm? Well 'Mandipe' collaborators Ahsayn and  Sharky return with the Afro Pop track 'Maraki' which loosely translated means 'luck'. “Maraki” talks about lucky charms and the power we give them or the power they give us, it all depends on you. What do YOU believe in? Is it luck? Fate? Destiny? Faith? "Gava rakadambura musungo" is a Shona saying that means (not in a literal sense) "All hell broke loose".

The track which laces traditional Zimbabwean music elements was produced by Afro Zeedy. While Ahsayn lays his vocals on the hook Sharky delivers his bars in Shona with some English to serve a great track that has food for thought.

Ahsayn Beatmaker and Afro8oi who is a UK based, Zimbabwean music producer, form the production duo that goes by the name Afro Zeedy. Afr8oi also happens to be Sharky’s older brother.

This is the first single…

Watch: Sandra Ndebele ft Mzoe7 Ingoma Music Video

Known for her energetic performances back in the early 2000s, Sandra Ndebele has a new groove in 2017 and she released her anticipated single 'Ingoma' which features rapper Mzoe7.
The single is accompanied by visuals which were directed by award winning director Andy Cutta.
There's lots of dancing in the video.

Watch: Queen Vee 'Nobody' Music Video

She kicked off her 2017 by returning to her roots of R&B when she released her single 'Nobody' and now the visuals are out.

Queen Vee is clad in all black and camo as she gyrates with her back up dancers or sitting on the backs of some very fine men whilst she fans herself.

The U.N.A first lady shows off that she's running things whilst singing to the gtBeats produced single.

Watch: Seyi Shay 'Yolo Yolo'

The song, produced by DJ Coublon, attempts to blend afro beat, high life and Latin music together, and while it succeeds at showing that all three genres have a lot in common, the song sadly isn't as memorable - which is a shame because Seyi Shay is one talented lady!
Thankfully, the colourful video directed by Meji Alabi (for JM Films) truly brings some much-needed life and makes it easier to appreciate the latin influences in the song. But more importantly, the South African landscape is stunning, Seyi Shay looks breathtaking and after watching this video, we are ready to book our next holiday - although our ratchet exchange rate won't let us be great...

Ciara made the photo shoot a family affair with son Future and husband Russell Wilson. The photos for the glossy fashion magazine showed a stripped down Ciara in just jeans and bare at the top, a fully unbuttoned white shirt, her wearing a white panty only and her holding baby Future.
The photo that had everyone talking though shows Ciara posing naked in just a pair if white pants – with her naked two year old covering her body and her husband proudly holding her baby bump from behind while hiding his face behind Ciara’s back.

Nicki Minaj Responds To Remy Ma Diss Track

Hip Hop excites fans for one reason...they keep pushing the culture forward and sometimes works well for rappers publicity.
Well the beef of the moment is between New York hip hop queens Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj. Two weeks ago Remy Ma bodied Nicki Minaj on her seven minute diss track 'ShEther'. Remy also dropped another diss track although lacklustre however Jamaican Queens rapper Nicki did not respond although she kept throwing shade by posting Remy Ma and Fat Joe's 'Plata O Plomo' album record sales and a recording of Beyonce singing that Nicki Minaj is a rap queen.
On Thursday night (Mar. 9) Nicki Minaj responded to the direct shots from her fellow New York MC on "No Frauds" which features Lil Wayne and Drake along with “Changed It” and “Regret in Your Tears.”. The song went straight to number one on iTunes and had mixed responses on the internet. Nicki Minaj took to Instagram to post this note, 'Young Money, we don't do diss records, we drop …
