2017 BET Awards Winners

The 2017 BET Awards keep proving the strength of a number of artists who have already been having a great year.We also saw greats being honoured while others reunite.Queen Bey was absent from the event however that didn't stop her reign as she won top with five awards including Best female R&B/pop artist and Video of the Year. Remy Ma ended Nicki Minaj's reign as Best female hip hop artist. Representing Africa is Nigerian superstar Wizkid who won Best international act – Africa. Sharky Releases Sophomore Album 'Take Back The Land'

Sharky is a sneaky one!

While we attended his album anniversary for his 2016 debut album 'Soko Matemai', he surprised us by dropping his sophomore album 'Take Back The Land'. 
On 24 June 2017 the Chitungwiza born award winning hip hop act celebrated the first anniversary of the release of his debut album “Soko Matemai” which was released on 25 June 2016. 
The second album which is boldly named “Take Back The Land”, carries a message inspired by the current socio-economic state of affairs in Zimbabwe and beyond.
The anniversary-turned-album-release comprised of fellow Chitungwiza artists Italist, Dexter Baysiq, Clessy, Prime Nero 7 as well as Chizzoe, Mac1, iZarr, uBu and Mutsa Mitchelle.

Teaming up with Tytan and KYN Records is one of the best career moves that Adrian Tate made.

The former Soul Afrika member has been pulling all the stops to prove that he can be a successful solo artist.
Off his recently released self titled EP 'Adrian Tate', comes the visuals for one of the stand out singles 'Ekeskuze Me'.
Co-produced by Adrian, Tytan and Begotten Sun, the single is an Afro Pop track which encompasses elements of local flavour.
The video was directed by go-to director Blaqs and UK based rapper Karizma. The plot of the video sees Adrian pursuing a lady and sharing how he would treat her if she was his lady. Taking on the role of his love interest is upcoming R&B songstress Mel Kay.
A brief choreography is thrown in the video to add a little something to the upbeat love song.

The single samples Carlos Santana and the Product G&B’s 2000 hit “Maria Maria.”
The guitar riffs are as sexy as ever blended well with urban music that will get you dancing.
The video was shot in Little Haiti in Miami and sees a red lipped Rihanna channeling sexiness with her hairstyle and clothes. Bryson Tiller's verse is one with quotable punchlines so might need a pen and paper.

New Music: Reverb 7 & Jazz Prosper 'Kabhebhi Bho'

First of all there is need to commend Reverb 7 and the team from Anashe for the promotion of the single 'Kabhebhi Bho'.

This highly anticipated Afro House single is finally here with super producer Reverb 7 teams up with Anashe Group's, upcoming artist Jazz Prosper.

The song is about having that 'One', the woman who gives good loving and she's just 'Kabhebhi Bho' (dope lady). Handling production are Young Nashylee from Anashe Group and Dru. Guitar sangoma, Sylent adds his guitar riffs to the track to give it that Afrocentric tinge.

The hook is catchy and the beat is uptempo as well as danceable.

60 Zimbabweans For The Mandela Washington Fellows 2017

60 young Zimbabweans have been selected to participate in the 2017 Mandela Washington Fellowship Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

The young 2017 fellows leaders, selected from a pool of over 2,600 applicants from Zimbabwe alone, will join 940 others from across the continent.

Ambassador Harry K. Thomas Jr. hosted the departing contingent on June 1st and reminded them of the importance of working together as well as with their colleagues from across the continent.

“You are going to be surrounded by some incredible people at your institutions in America and I urge you to work together, to pull each other in new directions, to support one another’s crazy ideas… and to build a community of leaders,” said Ambassador Thomas. “But no community will ever be stronger than the one you have around you right now. Because these are the people with whom you will build a brighter tomorrow for Zimbabwe.”

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is one of our largest initiatives by the United States …

Interview: Up Close And Personal With Fungai Nengare

Fungai Nengare is one of those laid back, down to earth artists, who loves music and love. We first met him during an interview in our second issue back in 2014. Since then we have seen him collaborate, tour and even endorse brands. So many milestones have occurred in his personal life which have inspired amazing music from him such as his 2016 hit, 'Maybe It's You'. The song and its visuals made us all fuzzy and warm inside while reminding fans that Zimbabwe is capable of quality, soulful music. Interview Up Close And Personal With Prayersoul

Interview: Up Close And Personal With Tinashe Makura

GM: Welcome to The beat of the nation Tinashe. Most people know about you but for the benefit of those who are just getting to know you. Take us back to the footprints that brought you here?

TM: I did my first official single called "Changed" in 2005 with my high school friend now known as MC CUT. I'd say he was responsible for getting me out of my shell. I'm a very shy individual. I got exposed to the international stage when I went to college in Malaysia in 2006. I played with so many bands during my time there. This is where I met my current producer and friend, Anton Morgan who is the genius behind my sound. Together we have created hits like "Hello", "Zvekupenga", "Africa", "Love and Laughter" and many more.

GM: As a Zimbabwean Afro pop artist what have been your high and low moments that you will always remember?

TM: As a Zimbabwean Afro Pop artist I think the highs and lows definitely were/are really about wrapping my head …

New Music: Sharky × Karma 'Munondivengereyi '

When you bring two powerful lyricist backed with skilled flows together you know that it's on.

It's been a while since we have heard from Mixmasterz International's star rapper, Karma while Sharky prepares for his debut album, 'Soko Matemai's' annivesary.
Mixmasterz International it making producer Rayo made sure that he had Sharky and Karma on the new track 'Munodndivengereyi' (Why do you hate me).
The song has been released on the 8th of June, which happens to be Sharky’s birthday.
The song is about dealing with haters as bot rappers show they are diverse styles. Sharky does his vernacular-English interchanging whilst also singing the hook.  Karma, picks up from where we last heard from him as he reminds us of his classic 'Chasing Moments'. 
If you want to experience reallygood hip hop from Zimbabwe then the combination of Karma, Sharky and of course producers Rayo, and Shayzar, who added his touch to the track.

Exclusive: BTS Reverb 7 And Jazz Prosper Search For 'Kabhebhi Bho'

Reverb 7 is one of the biggest names in house music from Zimbabwe and he has never been short of great hits. Very down to earth yet immensely talented, Reverb 7 roped us in to watch the making of the music video for his latest single 'Kabhebhi Bho'. The video being about a special lady, there was a bevy of beautiful ladies who will be featured in the music video.
Aaron Mheta took on directing duties while Reverb 7 and Jazz Prosper got into character for the video shoot.

TLC Take Fans 'Way Back' In New Music Video

TLC take fans on a journey to the past with a block party, cookout and house party all combined in one colourful music video.

'Way Back' is T-Boz and Chilli's first music video in over a decade. The duo brings along with guest Snoop Dogg on the track that reminds fans of TLC.

It's been 15 years since TLC's last album, having promised fans for years and even created a funding campaign through Kickstarter. After making double the $150,000 they had set as a goal, TLC later turned to fans to name the album, with their supporters opting for a self-titled release.

Way Back' is the first single from TLC's brand new album out June 30th!

The Nominees for the Inauguaral Bulawayo Arts Awards

The City of Kings (and queens) has come together the city's and even regions biggest names in media and entertainment.
On the 3rd of June 2017, the nominees for the inaugural Bulawayo Arts Awards were announced at Glen Lodge in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
The awards were established this year are meant to honour artists from Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South. This is to cover the gap of re lack of representation of entertainers from the Matebeleland region in mainstream platforms.

The awards will be running under the theme, "Celebrating arts excellence".
Voting lines have been opened for the public and will contribute 25% 

He said there will greater public participation as each vote will carry a 25 percent public vote.

A total of 38 awards will be given out on the night under the following categories: Special Awards, DJ Awards, Music Awards, Visual Arts Awards, Dance Awards, Theatre Awards, Spoken Word Awards, Fashion and Lifestyle Awards, Film Awards and Art in Schools Award…

Selmor Mtukudzi has that it-factor yet she's so underrated in the country.

Despite carrying legendary last names, Mrs Manatsa (new Mtukudzi) remains that one untapped big star.
But that's never stopped her from making it big on international frontiers or dropping smoking hits. Picking up the tempo from her 2013 hit 'Nguva Yangu', Selmor gets local ace producer, McDonald 'Macdee' Chidavaenzi to produce her latest single, 'Hangasa'.
The song shares in the theme of making great music on the Afro Pop single which laces authentic Zimbabwean elements and rhythms.
'Hangasa' is a track that one can dance to and in the Simba Gee directed music video, Selmor takes on traditional dancing alongside Hwamanda dance Troupe.
In the simple, colourful yet well done music video, we find Macdee making a cameo role, while Selmor's hubby, Tendai Manatsa shows off his kick ads skills on the bass guitar.

Time To Reach Youtopia At Shoko 2017

Artists applications for Shoko Festival might have closed on 30 May, but the festival is definitely here.

Magamba Network announced the 7th edition of Shoko Festival.
This year the theme is about exploring what it is to reach for an ideal, whether it’s personally or professionally. Through these trying times in Zimbabwe people need to find that happy place.

Shoo festival returns to for a third year in a row, to the Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences grounds on Rotten Row in the CBD for the first two days, and Chitungwiza for the last day of Shoko, “Peace in the Hood” concert.
Makamba teamed up with ComExposed to assemble a crew of 5 young designers to take part in the Shoko Theme Competition.
